Kyle Mcgyle

Kyle grew up watching his uncle play drums and from an early age was drawn to the intangible domain that is rhythm and feel. Mcgyle studied with Chris McCann (McGill University), and attended Humber College, graduated in Music Performance at Selkirk College, and then attended the Banff Centre of the Arts Jazz Workshop. This cemented his jazz education, which he used to gig on cruise ships as a member of the Jazz Trios. This led him to Brazil, where he lived and studied with the top drum teachers of Sao Paulo, including Nene (Hermeto Pascoal) and Sergio Gomes (Terra Brasil). He spent time in the northeast of the country to witness the rich folkloric traditions. Currently he has been performing with his own trio Que Isso?, and also bringing his unique expertise and energy to the stage with Ted Peters & Gumbo Ya Ya.
